ABOUT US

Making Swimming Accessible to Every Woman and Girl

We believe every woman and girl deserves the opportunity to learn to swim, enjoy the water and develop an essential life skill in an environment where she feels comfortable, respected and safe.

We are a group of friends who share a passion for swimming and a desire to make swimming more accessible to women and girls, particularly those who face cultural, religious, financial or social barriers to participating in swimming activities.

Our aim is to create welcoming swimming opportunities where women and girls can learn, develop their confidence and enjoy swimming in a safe, supportive and modest-swimwear-friendly environment.

WHY WE STARTED

Swimming is not just a recreational activity. It is an important life skill that promotes health, confidence, independence and personal safety.

However, many women and girls, particularly from ethnic minority communities, do not have equal opportunities to learn to swim.

For some, the lack of female-only swimming environments or female instructors makes participation difficult. Others may feel uncomfortable wearing conventional swimming attire or may not have access to facilities that accommodate modest swimwear.

Financial barriers, cultural expectations and limited access to suitable swimming programmes can also prevent women and girls from learning this valuable skill.

We believe these barriers should not prevent anyone from enjoying the benefits of swimming.

We started this initiative to help change that.

OUR TEAM & QUALIFICATIONS

Our organisation is founded by women who are passionate about swimming, teaching and making a positive difference in our communities.

Our swimming teachers hold Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualifications through the Institute of Swimming, giving us the professional foundation to teach swimming and help learners develop their abilities.

Our team also includes a member who holds the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), awarded through the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK).

Importantly, all our swimming teachers and lifeguards will be women. This allows us to provide an environment where women and girls can participate, learn and develop their swimming skills with greater comfort and confidence.

We are committed to maintaining appropriate safety standards and creating a positive learning environment for everyone who joins us.

OUR COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION

We want to see more women and girls from ethnic minority communities represented in swimming.

Swimming should not be limited by someone’s ethnicity, culture, religion, background or financial circumstances.

We particularly want to encourage women and girls who have never had the opportunity to learn, those who may feel uncomfortable in conventional swimming environments, and those who have always wanted to swim but never felt that swimming facilities were designed with their needs in mind.

We welcome women and girls from all backgrounds and aim to make swimming a more accessible and inclusive activity.

WHAT WE OFFER

Our programmes aim to provide:

  • Swimming lessons: From beginners taking their first steps in the water to swimmers wanting to improve their technique.
  • Water confidence: Helping learners overcome their fears and become comfortable in the water.
  • Water safety education: Teaching essential skills such as floating, staying afloat and understanding water-related dangers.
  • Modest swimming opportunities: Providing an environment that welcomes women wearing modest swimming attire.
  • Women-led instruction: All swimming teachers and lifeguards are women.
  • Community programmes: Creating opportunities for women and girls who may otherwise struggle to access swimming lessons.

We also hope to develop programmes that make swimming more affordable and accessible to women and girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.

OUR VISION

Our vision is a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to learn to swim, regardless of her circumstances.

We want to build confidence, improve water-safety awareness, encourage healthier lifestyles and increase representation of women from ethnic minority communities in swimming.

Ultimately, we want women and girls to feel that swimming is for them too.

Because swimming is more than a skill. It is confidence, freedom, wellbeing and a life skill that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn.
